ROSACEA

You have a skin disease called rosacea. Sometimes this problem is called "adult acne" because the bumps and pimples can resemble acne, and the treatment is similar. No one knows the cause of rosacea, but it is not an infection, and it is not caused by dirt. Hot and spicy foods and drinks as well as drinking alcohol can make it worse. Rosacea is not a curable problem, but it usually is easily controlled with medication. The most common medication used is called metronidazole (Metrogel), and it is applied to the skin twice daily. Normally, 1 to 2 months is required for rosacea to go away. You will probably need to continue using your medication, or the bumps will come back. You should see your regular health care provider in about 2 months for a follow-up visit.
